BEDTIME STORIES

Reading books at bedtime is one of favorite our father-daughter rituals. We don’t usually limit it to one or two books either. Sometimes we’ll read as many as three books.

At some point, I started making up my own stories to tell Aidan. While some of her favorite made-up ones are ghost stories, one of my stories involved a young snake who gets lost in Houston and has trouble getting home.  I used our family home on Mt. Vernon Street in Houston as the home that the snake lives under. After finishing the improvised story for the first time, Aidan asked me to tell it to her again. And again. And again.

I decided to write it down so we will always have the story to remember as it was originally told. Maybe someday other fathers will read it to their daughters and sons.
